American Players Theatre

Sit down and prepare to clap! The American Players Theatre is the most renowned show experience in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and draws thousands of visitors from all over the nation. At this outdoor amphitheater, you’ll have the chance to watch classic plays from the writings of Shakespeare.

In addition to the classics, you may get an opportunity to watch some of the plays written
by cast members of the Players Theatre. If you’re a diehard performance fan, you may be able to sneak a watch of two different plays during your stay in Spring Green!

Schedule

The schedule for plays, tours, and other events ranges from year to year. The American Players Theatre season typically runs from June until the end of November, as this is when it's most comfortable to view plays outside.

Additionally, many of the behind-the-scenes events and workshops occur in the summer and fall months. This is a great time to visit Spring Green for that reason alone!

History

The American Players Theatre was founded in 1977 by Charles Bright, Randall Duk Kim, and Anne Occhiogrosso in Washington DC. As time went on, the group decided they wanted to find a new site for their theatre. The Spring Green location became the new home for the beautiful outdoor amphitheatre.

As time went on and the performers tirelessly entertained guests all around Wisconsin, the American Players Theatre actors found more success. This success drove more traffic to the theatre, inspiring the company to build the Touchstone Theatre in 2009. This indoor theatre would allow for more performances throughout the year.

The American Players Theatre is an inspiration to actors and playwrights everywhere, and now draws over 100,000 visitors each year. We know you’ll enjoy the show just as we have!

A day at the theatre is a day that is enjoyed. We know that the American Players Theatre will stand out as one of the best attractions on your vacation.
