Why should you visit Tower Hill State Park?

On top of that, if you love hunting and fishing, then Tower Hill is one of the few places you can do this close to Spring Green!

Hiking

Tower Hill State Park has one major hiking trail that guides you up to the esteemed tower that the park is named after! The Shot Tower and Smelter House will show off some of the oldest buildings in the area. It’s considered an incredibly beautiful trail, but might be too short for hiking veterans. The hike is dog-friendly, but your furry friend must be on a leash.

Length: 1 mile

Difficulty: Easy (during the winter the hike is a bit tougher)

What should I bring on the hike?

Because the hike isn’t super long, you shouldn’t need to bring full backpacking equipment or anything. Here are some things you can bring:

  • Good walking shoes
  • Weather-appropriate clothes (if cooler, obviously wear a jacket or coat)
  • Bug Spray (some guests complain about the mosquitos)
  • Sunscreen (especially for young kids and sun-sensitive people)

Fishing

The banks of the Wisconsin River run on the north end of Tower Hill, making for an awesome fishing experience! Fish up any number of freshwater creatures your Wisconsin fishing license will allow! The most common fish are smallmouth bass, walleye, and northern pike, but there are several others you may be able to angle out of the water!

Make sure you have your fishing license before you start casting your line into the river or you can get fined. You can buy a fishing license by clicking the button below!

Peck's Landing

Canoeing and kayaking is also incredibly popular on the Wisconsin River! While there aren’t designated “boat launches” in the park boundaries, you can still sail your kayaks into the water from the banks of the river.

Peck’s Landing is a pretty good boat launch that lies outside of the state park, but has some exceptionally picturesque views that can brighten your day! Bring your canoe or kayak rentals here for a fun afternoon.

Hunting

Bring your rifles and camo, it’s time for a hunting trip! While there are certain sections of Tower Hill that are always off-limits to hunters, the eastern sections are open season! Be aware of the hunting and trapping regulations so you don’t entangle yourself in fines!

You can hunt a ton of different animals here, including deer, fowl, small game, and more! Trapping is also pretty popular here, so if you want to try something new, get your permits today!

It's Time to Hunt!

Tower Hill is a great place to retreat to if you are sick of being indoors, but after you're done breathing in the fresh air, you can always return to Spring Valley Inn for a cozy night’s sleep. See you soon!
